Engine Swapping/Engine Change and Replacment

Engine swapping involves taking out the original engine of a vehicle and installing a different one in its place.

Such modifications are typically carried out due to engine failure, the desire to install a newer and more efficient engine, which can enhance power and fuel efficiency. Older engines may face challenges in sourcing spare parts, making a modern replacement a more cost-effective and easier maintenance option.

When conducting an engine swap, it can involve replacing the original engine with either a compatible engine recommended by the car manufacturer or a completely different one. Swapping to a compatible engine is easier than opting for a different one. Adapting an engine into a car that was not designed for it can be a complex and costly process, involving modifications to the car and engine, as well as the creation of custom engine mounts, transmission bellhousing adaptors, and a bespoke driveshaft. Certain small businesses specialize in producing conversion kits for engine swaps.

At Al-Rafay, we have engines from most of the cars commonly seen on Pakistani roads, such as Mira, Honda Civic, 2NZ, and INZ. Occasionally, the cost of rebuilding an engine can exceed the expense of replacing it with a used engine imported from Japan.

At AlRafay Auto, equipped with engine lifts and air tools, we can remove the accessories, motor, and transmission mounts in a day or two.

Failure to properly care for and maintain your car's engine will lead to rapid deterioration. Increased mileage on your car will accelerate the engine's demise. The cumulative effects of wear and tear will eventually cause the engine to fail prematurely. When the engine reaches this critical stage, it may necessitate replacement with a new one. A failing engine typically exhibits warning signs indicating its impending failure. Below are some common symptoms:

1. Excessive Exhaust Smoke

Driving behind a vehicle emitting a constant stream of smoke from the tailpipe can be frustrating. This smoke serves as an indicator that the engine is approaching failure. The color of the smoke can often reveal the underlying issue:

● Blue Smoke: Indicates oil burning in the engine.

● White Smoke: Indicates a coolant system leak.

● Black Smoke: Indicates excessive fuel burning in the engine.

2. Knocking Sounds

While a noisy engine can suggest various problems, knocking noises typically signal worn-out engine bearings. Once the bearings deteriorate, it is only a matter of time (and not much time) before the engine ceases to operate. Bringing your vehicle to AA Auto Technicians before the bearings completely fail can save your car. We can replace the bearings and assess other areas requiring engine repairs.

3. Metal Shavings Appear During Oil Changes

The purpose of fluids in your engine is to prevent dry, hot metal components from grinding against each other. Without proper lubrication, an operating engine would not survive more than a few hours. In the absence of fluids, friction between metal parts results in the formation of shavings that are removed upon contact. The presence of metal shavings indicates that your car is on borrowed time unless you promptly bring it in for us to diagnose the issue.

4. Lack of Engine Power

If an engine is not generating enough power, it may be due to a combination of simultaneous issues. Essentially, the engine is underperforming and requires extensive repairs to function properly. In cases of severe engine weakness, we suggest opting for an engine replacement rather than repairs. This approach is likely to result in long-term cost savings.
